Biogas technologies are gaining prominence in the federal state of Lower Saxony (Germany). The number of biogas plants has nearly tripled within the last seven years, from 435 plants in 2004 to 1,300 in 2011. Economic incentives for this development are provided under the Renewable Energy Law (German: EEG).

Biogas produced by AD is considered to have a high saving potential with respect to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (EC, 2009). However, beyond that, other environmental implications of biogas production are still unclear despite quite a few life cycle assessment (LCA) studies having been carried out. This is due to several reasons.

This is seen by the potential of the area in Oskarshamn. Also examining the economic perspective there is. This is a LCA where two methods were used, the Global Warming Potential with a 100-year perspective and ReCiPe Endpoint. LCA has been used to evaluate the supply-chain of NG which is the direct competitor of BWWF, in three different Colombian regions, in order to identify those where higher NG environmental impacts offer increased environmental added-value to BWWF use.

Biogas LCA studies provides to assess the environmental impacts from biogas production, to determine energy and material requirements and emissions and to compare different scenarios. 2012-05-01 tion of leakage of biogas during production and upgrad-ing is crucial for the environmental impact on GWP. A leakage of only a few percent of the produced gas will lead to a loss of all the gain in saved GHG-emissions. Key words: Biogas, OFMSW, MSW, LCA, Anaerobic Digestion 1. Introduction Singapore has one of the highest populated countries The objective of this MSc thesis is to examine the life cycle assessment (LCA) impacts of bio-gas/biofuel production within a system that may treat different types of organic waste substrates. The purpose is to understand how life cycle environmental impacts of biogas/biofuel production is influ- These observations show that contextualized environmental and economic evaluation for usual energy resources is crucial to disclose the advisability of biogas sources.

This study aims to make further contributions to the discussion on the environmental sustainability of biogas. The paper considers life cycle environmental impacts of electricity generation in five real AD-CHP systems using biogas produced from differing mixes of four types of feedstock. Biogas produced by AD is considered to have a high saving potential with respect to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (EC, 2009). However, beyond that, other environmental implications of biogas production are still unclear despite quite a few life cycle assessment (LCA) studies having been carried out.
